MHSO Highway Infrastructure webinar on August 28

ASHE Chesapeake will be hosting the next MHSO webinar on Monday, August 28 at 12:00PM EST. The session will focus on pedestrians and bicyclists and will speak directly to the work you do each day as a highway professional.

The presentation will be maximum of 45 minutes with time for questions and answers. This webinar is free to attend and is a great way to keep informed about MHSO’s initiatives.  Please consider forwarding this information to anyone who may be interested in this webinar.  ASHE membership is not required to participate.

Speakers will include Jeff Dunckel, Pedestrian Safety Coordinator for Montgomery County, Bala Akundi of the Baltimore Metropolitan Council, and Dustin Kuzan, an ADA Compliance Engineer with Tindale Oliver.

Jeff Dunckel, Pedestrian Safety Coordinator Montgomery County 

Jeff is the Pedestrian Safety Coordinator for Montgomery County Department of Transportation.  Jeff  leads the County’s effort to implement the County Executive’s Pedestrian Safety Initiative, reducing fatalities and injuries resulting form pedestrian collisions. He aims to improve traffic safety and create more walkable and bikeable communities.

Bala Akundi, Baltimore Metropolitan Council 

Bala is a Principal Transportation Engineer with the Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC), which provides technical support to the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB), the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Baltimore region. He has been an active member on three Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) planning and implementation teams dating back to 2004 and is currently serving as co-chair on the infrastructure emphasis area team. Over the past ten years, he has led the deployment of several safety education and outreach campaigns in the Baltimore region such as the Street Smart pedestrian safety campaign.

Dustin Kuzan, ADA Compliance Engineer | Tindale Oliver

Dustin is a licensed civil engineer with over nine years of experience across a diverse set of areas with a focus on pedestrian accessibility and safety. For over a year Dustin has focused on reviewing designs, policies and performing inspections for ADA compliance with Federal ADA standards, local accessibility codes and the International Building Code (IBC). Prior to this, Dustin spent five years overseeing the Maryland State Highway Administration’s (SHA) bicycle and pedestrian programs including reviewing, enhancing and/or coordinating designs, policies and programs for Complete Streets and pedestrian access in the public right-of-way. As part of this role he also created and implemented SHA’s first pedestrian safety program and lead a statewide coalition on pedestrian safety that created, coordinated and implemented pedestrian safety strategies across the state of Maryland.
